  1. 12/18/2015 DENVER WATER STUDYING RATE INCREASE AND NEW RATE STRUCTURE
  2.

The Denver Board of Water Commissioners is considering an increase in water rates effective April 1, 2016. The water consumption charges for Platte Canyon Water and Sanitation District customers are proposed to increase approximately 3.8% with the fixed monthly service charge increasing from $6.74 to $8.79. Along with an increase in rates, the Board is considering adoption of a new rate structure.

Being considered is a rate design that will increase the monthly fixed service charge and reduce the tiered rate blocks from four blocks to three. The consumption threshold for the first block will be based on the customer’s “average winter consumption,” the amount of water actually used in the winter months. The second block will be the average winter consumption amount plus 15,000 gallons. The third block will be all water consumed in excess of the amount allowed in block two.

The change in rates and the new rate design, if approved, will result in varying charges to Platte Canyon customers, largely based on the amount of water used for irrigation. The Board is planning to consider the rate proposal December 16. Customers are encouraged to monitor this website and Denver Water’s website, www.denverwater.org, for updates regarding rate information.
