  1. 6/17/2016 WARMER WEATHER WELCOMES THE ARRIVAL OF CONSTRUCTION SEASON
  2. With spring and summer comes the beginning of construction season and a continuation of Platte Canyon’s efforts to repair, rehabilitate and replace portions of the District’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems. The District has been busy planning two capital improvement projects set to begin construction later this year.

    Columbine West Pump Station Rehabilitation

An engineering needs assessment of the Columbine West Pump Station has been commissioned and should be completed later this year. Upon completion of the needs assessment, District staff and the District’s consultant, Dewberry Engineers, will determine a scope of work for rehabilitation and upgrading the pump station.

The 43 year old Columbine West pump station provides peak water flow and fire flow capability to 330 homes in the Columbine West Subdivision located generally between South Pierce Street, West Coal Mine Avenue, South Wadsworth Boulevard, and West Ken Caryl Avenue. The current engineering assessment includes evaluation of two variable speed pumps and motors, the constant speed auxiliary fire pump and motor, steel inlet and outlet piping, and the variable speed control system. Numerous small leaks have occurred on the steel piping within the pump station, and the pumps and motors have not been replaced or had major work since they were installed in 1972. At their May 27 meeting, the Board of Directors awarded a construction contract in the amount of $1,097,880 to Glacier Construction Company.  This project is due to begin later this year.

    Normandy Estates Water Main Replacement

This project proposes replacement of 183 feet of 6-inch cast iron pipe in West Portland Drive between West Ottawa Avenue and South Sheridan Boulevard in the Normandy Estates Subdivision with 183 feet of 6-inch poly-vinyl pipe. The existing pipe has experienced three breaks caused by external corrosion. The estimated cost of the project including design engineering and contingencies is $39,100.

For questions or comments concerning these projects, please feel free to call the District’s Project and Construction Coordinator, Tony Cocozzella at 303-979-2333.

Additional information including construction schedules, project details, and the addresses that will be affected by this project will be posted here as they become available.
