District maintenance and customer service representatives are frequently asked who is responsible to repair breaks on the water and sewer service pipes--the District or the customer?

These are the pipes that extend between the District’s water and sewer mains, usually located in the street, and the customer’s residence or business. Under District regulations, which are consistent with most other Colorado water and sewer service providers, the customer owns and maintains the entire water and sewer pipe up to, and including, the connection to the District’s main, regardless of whether the pipe is located in the street or on the customer’s property. As a service to customers, the District will provide limited leak repair services on that portion of the water service pipe located between the District’s main and the customer’s property line (curb stop valve). The District does not, however, provide any repair services on the sewer service pipe, whether located in the street or on the customer’s property.

The District will dispatch a maintenance representative to determine whether a water or sewer problem is the District’s or customer’s responsibility.
