District News Articles

  2. Platte Canyon was once again pleased to sponsor a series of water efficiency sessions to inform District customers how to utilize efficient water and irrigation practices and how to receive monetary compensation by doing it. The District’s seminar series has grown increasingly popular with the advent of water resource limitations and higher water rates.

Over 20 individual Platte Canyon/ customers joined representatives from various Platte Canyon Home Owners Associations, area Park and Recreation Districts, and Jefferson County Road and Bridge for this Fall’s seminar series.

The series included Residential Irrigation System Basics and Maintenance which was hosted by Larry Horgan of Garden Builders, Inc. In this seminar Mr. Horgan discussed the basic components of a sprinkler system, instructions on how and when to perform spring charge-up and winter shut down of sprinkler systems, how much customers should water, and concluded with a discussion on how to make simple repairs on sprinkler systems: from cut or broken pipes, to problems with the backflow preventer, spray heads, and controllers(clocks).

The second seminar was Water Conservation: Denver Water’s Rebates and Incentives for HOAs and Residential Customers presented by Timothy LaPan and Cindy Moe of the Denver Water Department. This seminar provided an overview of Denver Water's Commercial and Industrial Water Conservation Rebate & Incentive programs as well as Outdoor rebates and incentives for commercial and residential customers. The primary topics covered in this presentation included: water conservation rebates, commercial & industrial incentive program, cooling tower program, and the irrigation efficiency incentive program, and concluded with an overview on efficient irrigation practices.

The District thanks Mr. Horgan, Mr. LaPan, and Ms. Moe for their expert and interesting lectures.
